Event Details

Ruck/Walk memorial and fundraiser for Fallen, Not Forgotten (FNF). The route will be 32K, with link up locations at 16K, 8K, 5K and 2K, for participants of all levels. Event registration includes t-shirt and all proceeds from the event go to FNF.

Fallen, Not Forgotten (FNF) is a nonprofit who’s mission is to support the families of ALL US service members Killed in Action (KIA). FNF seeks to raise funds to purchase and operate recreational properties throughout the US, where these families can go, at no cost to them. FNF was conceptualized and created by current and former US Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) Special Agents. In addition to supporting the families of all US service members who paid the ultimate price, these Special Agents are dedicated to never forgetting their former friends and coworkers. Since its founding in 1948, 16 AFOSI personnel have been KIA, with 14 of those occurring during military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.

This ruck/walk event is being held to aid FNF in fulfilling it’s mission AND to honor our Fallen. All proceeds generated from registrations, pledges for distance rucked/walked, merchandise sales, straight donations and sponsorship will be sent to FNF.

The course will be 32K (19.9 miles) in total length, with 4 additional “link up” points along the route: approximately 16K (9.94 miles), 8K (4.97 miles), 5K (3.1 miles) and 2K (1.24 miles). Participants choose their distance at the time of registration. For those not familiar with a “ruck”, it is a military term which refers to a walk/hike while carrying a pack (aka ruck) over varying distances.

There is no requirement for any participant to carry a ruck, and if they choose to carry one, there is no required weight. However, we highly recommend that anyone planning to participate in any distance above 2K, carry the following: water, lunch/snacks and additional clothing (i.e. extra socks, rain jacket, etc.). A small pack with a water bladder would work well. There will be very limited logistical support, including water stations, along the route.

For those who would like to carry a weighted pack, we recommend 16 pounds, not including water and extra gear. This represents one pound for each of AFOSI’s Fallen. If you are planning on carrying weight, you may want to consider weight that can be “dropped” if needed, should it become too heavy. A bag of sand would be ideal, since it can be emptied easily.

T-shirts and tanks will be handed out at a pre-event gathering (time and date are not set, but will likely be 2-3 days before the event). In instances where an item must be shipped, we will send it to the address input during the checkout. If this is not the nest address, it is the responsibility of the participant(s) to email the correct address to [email protected] prior to the event.

Finally, this event will be held in Helena, MT, along a designated route; however, participants can also participate virtually. Participants from around the world can register, find a place to ruck/walk, invite friends and family to register, seek pledges for distances walked and then participate.
